Hoof Trimming Clinic May 30-31

You will enjoy a jam-packed week-end of lecture, discussion, demonstration and hands-on trimming experience.  The clinic is geared toward helping horse owners gain the confidence to trim their own horse or at least do touch ups between farrier visits.  However, professionals who are interested in learning about a "high performance" barefoot trim are welcome to attend.  Participants may bring their own horse to the clinic for evaluation and trimming.  However, this isn’t necessary as we have several horses on the farm who can be used for the clinic.

Wellness - Mind, Body & Spirit

The Nexus Center is a natural care facility located in Greeneville, TN.  We offer horse training and riding instruction to individuals interested in horsemanship and dressage, as well as other teaching modes such as clicker training. In addition horse and rider training we offer hoof care services, nutritional counseling, lameness consultation and barefoot rehabilitiation We occasionally have nicely started barefoot horses for sale to approved homes.

What is barefoot rehabilitation?

Research and experience is now showing that most hoof related problems (cracks, flares, ringbone, laminitis, and navicular) are caused by poor hoof form, improper diet, and inadequate and improper movement.  Furthermore, many training problems, lamenesses, and "just-not-rightnesses" stem from hoof problems that are going undiagnosed.  What we are finding is t hat horses are able to return--not just to soundness--but considerably improved performance when hoof form, diet, and movement problems are corrected.

Mind/Body/Balance

Once the horse's feet are operating properly the horse may enter the the physical therapy portion of the rehab process.  Frequently, long term hoof imbalances have lead to problems in other parts of the body such as shoulder, neck, back, or hocks.  Here attention to classical principles of relaxation, balance and alignment in training is crucial.  Correct dressage work should be therapeutic for the horse!  Of course, these principles apply to all horses and they are basis for all the training and instruction that takes place at the Center.

Learning Opportunities

In addition to offering instruction in dressage riding (we have several nice school horses if you don't have a horse of your own) we also offer educational opportunities for those interested in barefoot horse care.  Horse owners, vets and farriers who want to learn more about natural care, hoof trimming for barefoot healing, and nutrition are welcome at the Center to participate in clinics or partake in one-on-one instruction.
